Channeling Your Inner “Real Estate Investor”: How to Discover Your Calling

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
– Aristotle
Greek philosopher

Everything that you practice will eventually become your habit. Real Estate IQ, in launching its virtual event “Successful Habits Book Club”, envisions to promote a reading and learning culture where experienced investors share their views on a chosen book. As a real estate investor, the curiosity and the excitement to learn new things must be part of your everyday life. Once you establish learning as a habit, it will then become your character.

The book club panelists Brent Mott, Michael Gefteas, Jon Yu and Joseph Dela Cruz, all accomplished real estate investors, share their views regarding the  book “Mastery” by Robert Greene. In relation to this book, here are the synthesis elicited from the guide discussions as to how can you discover your calling and find the real estate investor in you:

1 – Learn who you really are

The first way to mastery is always inward. You need to have a self-reflection of what you want to achieve, what are your plans to do it, how will you accomplish it and what are your dedications in pursuing these goals. Everything will start from knowing yourself. You need to connect with your inclinations, uniqueness and interests in doing things. At Real Estate IQ, we have a community portal where experienced investors can learn and interact with each other. You are always welcome to be part of it!

2 – Take your path

The next step after you find out who you really are is to take your path. After knowing what is the direction you want to take, the next thing that you need to do is to relentlessly pursue it.

In this book, Robert Greene discussed how the Italian polymath Leonardo Da Vinci took his path of chasing and fulfilling his dream to become an artist. Even in the time of war where adversaries happened, including destroying masterpieces of artists, he pursued his dream.

In real estate investing, you must also find what you love and take this track. You may be a house flipper, a bird dog, a realtor, an agent or an investor, but whatever strategy you choose, make sure that it is rooted in your innate passion. You need to look at the center path you are on, and the choice of this path should be enlarged to find your life’s calling.

3 – Appreciate obstacles

Real estate investing is a business with a purpose. As a real estate investor, you can help distressed and motivated sellers to solve their problems such as financial challenges, foreclosure, and other personal reasons. However, your career will certainly be a journey with a twist of obstacles instead of a straight path to success. You will definitely encounter a lot of challenges along the way.

One of the ways to win over these obstacles is to come prepared by having a continuous learning system and a habit of discovering new things.
